Configure and view the org chart

Check your company's hierarchy or create a custom structure from the org chart section.

Written by Juan Merino

The org chart lets you visually represent your company's structure. Holded automatically generates an official org chart from your employee data, and you can create custom org charts with the structure you need.

☝️ Only users with access to HR > Employees can view this section.

The official org chart

Holded creates and maintains an official org chart based on your employees' teams, work centers, and profiles.

To view it:

  1. Go to Team > Employees > Org chart.

  2. Select Official in the org chart selector.

Keep in mind that the official org chart updates automatically when you modify your employees' data. You can't edit it directly.

Creating a custom org chart

  1. Go to Team > Employees > Org chart.

  2. Click + New org chart.

  3. Enter a name and click Create.

From the settings menu, you can Rename, Duplicate, or Delete any custom org chart.

Adding nodes

With the org chart open, click the actions menu on any existing node to add a child node.

There are three types of nodes:

  • Person: link an existing employee or create a draft with a name and job title.

  • Team: add a group of type Department, Squad, or Other, with the option to link it to an existing department.

  • Position: represents a role with Vacant or Hiring status, with a quantity and an optional description.

Editing and reorganizing nodes

  • To edit a node, hover over it and click ⋯ > Edit.

  • To move a node, drag it to its new parent node.

  • To delete a node with children, choose whether to also delete the children or promote them to the parent node's level.

Changes save automatically. An indicator at the top shows the status: Saving... or Saved.

To undo an edit, use Ctrl+Z (Windows) or Cmd+Z (Mac). To redo, use Ctrl+Y (Windows) or Cmd+Y (Mac).

Adding dotted-line relationships

Dotted lines represent dependencies outside the direct hierarchy, such as an employee who reports to two managers.

  1. Click on the source node.

  2. Select Add dotted line.

  3. Click the target node to create the relationship.

To remove it, open the menu again and select Remove dotted line.

Exploring the org chart

From the org chart, you have several options to filter and search:

  • Search for people or teams by name using the search bar.

  • Filter by department from the dropdown.

  • Switch the view between Tree, Hierarchical, and Compact.

  • Check real-time statistics: teams, members, vacancies, and positions being hired for.
