One of Holded's key features is its ability to import projects from other project management applications, such as Excel and Trello. Below, you will learn how to import projects into Holded using these two applications.

Importing projects from Excel

Excel is one of the most widely used tools for project management, as it is very flexible and easy to use. Holded allows you to import projects from Excel using a CSV template. To import projects from Excel to Holded, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Projects > Projects, from the sidebar.

  2. Click the three-dot button (⋮), top right, and select “Import”.

  3. Choose to import from “Excel”.

  4. Click “Download a sample XLSX file” to download the template.

  5. Fill in the CSV template with your project information. The template includes fields for project name, description, start date, end date, status and other relevant details.

  6. Save the CSV template to your computer.

  7. Go back to step 4, and click “Upload file”.

  8. Select the CSV file you created and click “Import”.

Holded will automatically import the projects from your CSV file, adding them to your account.

Note that when importing projects from Excel, the associated tasks will not be imported.

Importing projects from Trello

Trello is a board-based project management tool, widely used around the world. You can import your Trello projects into Holded via the JSON file provided by Trello when exporting your board.

These are the items from your Trello board that will be added to Holded through the import process: Lists, Tasks, Comments, and Files.

To import projects from Trello, follow these steps:

  1. In Trello, export the board in JSON format, as specified in the Trello documentation, by following this path:

Show menu > More > Print and export > Export in JSON format > Right mouse button > Save as.

  2. In Holded, go to Projects > Projects, from the sidebar.

  3. Click the three-dot button (⋮), top right, and select “Import”.

  4. Choose to import from “Trello”.

  5. In the next window, click “+ Upload file”, and select the JSON file you previously exported from Trello.

Continue with the following instructions, depending on whether you want to import into a new project, or an existing one:

1. Import to a new project

  1. Select the projects and lists you want to import into the new project.

  2. Choose the contact you want to add to the project, and click “Next”.

  3. Assign team members to the project using the dropdown, and click “Next”.

2. Import to an existing project

  1. Select the existing project to which you want to import the data from the drop-down menu.

  2. Choose whether you want to create new lists, or add the tasks to existing lists in the selected project.

  3. Also indicate, if necessary, the status of the task, using the rightmost drop-down menu.

  4. Choose the contact you want to add to the project, and click “Next”.

  5. Assign team members to the project using the dropdown, and click “Next”.

Unlike importing via Excel (where the project tasks are not imported), importing your projects from Trello will import the tasks as well.

Remember that after finishing the import, you always have the option to edit any data from the platform.
